The European Bioinformatics Community for Mass Spectrometry is pleased to announce the next edition of its Developers Meeting, now rebranded as the EuBIC-MS Hackathon 2027, to be held in Gimo, Sweden.
Building on the successful series of EuBIC-MS Developers Meetings, the Hackathon will bring together researchers, developers, and practitioners in mass spectrometry bioinformatics to collaborate on open, community-driven projects, share expertise, and advance computational tools and methods across the omics landscape.

What to expect
The EuBIC-MS Hackathon 2027 will feature the core elements that have distinguished past Developers Meetings, including:
- Collaborative hackathon sessions, where participants work in teams on community-proposed projects related to software development, workflows, benchmarking, standards, and other topics of broad interest in MS bioinformatics
- Invited keynote presentations, offering insight into emerging trends and challenges in mass spectrometry and computational biology
- Poster sessions and lightning talks, providing a platform for participants to share ongoing work, novel ideas, and preliminary results
- Informal discussion and networking opportunities, fostering connections and future collaborations across institutions and disciplines
- Optional activities, such as a lake hike, wine tasting, bar, and sauna
EuBIC-MS events are designed to be highly interactive and inclusive, welcoming contributions from academia, research infrastructure, and industry.
Vote for your favorite hackathon proposals
The call for hackathon proposals is now closed. We are currently open for community voting on the submitted proposals. The results of this vote will inform the organizing committee on community interest in each proposed topic. The final selection of hackathon sessions will be made by the organizing committee. This decision will take the voting results into account alongside other factors, including general quality, feasibility, and overall program diversity.

Present your work with a poster
All participants are encouraged to present their own work in a poster session, and early career researchers are especially welcome to do so. Poster abstracts are submitted through a separate online form; registration for the Hackathon must be completed first before submitting an abstract.
The poster session opens with a round of lightning talks, giving each poster presenter one minute to pitch their work to the full group before the session begins.
Optional activities
In addition to the main program, several optional activities will be available during the Hackathon.
- Wednesday afternoon hike: a special slot on Wednesday afternoon, right after lunch, is scheduled for outdoor activities, such as a hike around the lake. The hike trail is 12 km and takes around 3.5 hours. As sunset is shortly after 16:00 and it is dark by 17:00, participants wishing to do the full hike should start no later than 13:00. Hiking boots are strongly recommended. Trail info (Swedish). Participation is entirely optional.
- Ice skating: if the lake is frozen, ice skating may be possible. This will be confirmed a few days before the event.
- Cross-country skiing: a cross-country skiing center is within walking distance of the venue, with a 4 km loop, artificial snow if needed, and electric lights for evening use. Participants must bring their own equipment.
- Wine tasting, bar, and sauna will also be available on site.

The venue, Gimo HerrgĂĄrd, is located about 1 hour from Stockholm Arlanda Airport by car. By public transport, take the train from Arlanda to Uppsala Central station, then UL bus 811 to Gimo bus station (about 1.5 hours total). A shuttle bus may be provided for transportation from the airport if there is sufficient interest.
Stockholm Arlanda airport has daily direct flights from most major European cities, including Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, DĂĽsseldorf, Frankfurt, Helsinki, KrakĂłw, London, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Vienna, Warsaw, and Zurich. Stockholm is also reachable by train from Oslo and Copenhagen, by night train from Berlin via Hamburg, and by ferry from Turku, Helsinki, or Tallinn.

Travel grants may be available through EuPA or your national proteomics society. Please reach out to EuPA or your national society directly to find out about eligibility, requirements, and how to apply.
Cancellation and refund policy
Cancellations must be submitted in writing by email to hackathon@eubic-ms.org. They will only be accepted if received at least 14 days prior to the first day of the event (the email date will be considered the cancellation date). Cancellations received after this deadline, as well as no-shows, are not eligible for a refund, and the full registration fee remains due. For all cancellations, the registration fee will be reimbursed only partially, after deduction of a handling fee. The exact amount of this fee depends on the actual costs of processing the reversal.
The organizers reserve the right to cancel all or parts of the event at short notice. In such cases, all paid fees will be refunded in full, minus an administrative fee of 50 EUR.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology serves as the local and financial organizer of the EuBIC-MS Hackathon 2027. Registration fees are received by KTH. Payments are processed by card through the event registration platform provided by Axaco; the details below are provided for administrative use.

The registration fee includes:

The registration fee does not include:
